6 Things to do in Kakadu National Park

Kakadu National Park is a haven of wildlife and adventure. 1. Yellow Water Boat Cruise

2. Nourlangie

Step back in time and visit the incredible rock art of Nourlangie. This breath-taking natural formation forms a great walk, but it is also home to centuries-old paintings created by Aboriginal tribes. Nearby, you can check out the Anbangbang Billabong, from which there are stunning views of Nourlangie and its surrounding scenery.

3. Maguk Gorge

Set in the south of Kakadu, Maguk Gorge can be found in the middle of lush rainforest and vibrant vegetation. Along the way, you can spot lizards and colourful birds before the route opens out into a stunning swimming hole perfect for cooling off in. If you’re feeling particularly brave, try cliff jumping from the surrounding precipices.

4. Jim Jim Falls

Perhaps the most popular waterfall at Kakadu, Jim Jim Falls is a picturesque spot perfect for an afternoon picnic. As well as enjoying the cascading water and its surroundings, you can also take a walk from Barrk to Mariam through the lush undergrowth to get a better insight into the wildlife in the park.

5. Yurmikmik Walks

Fancy a stroll? Yurmikmik offers ideal walking opportunities, ranging from an easy 2km loop to a more strenuous 14km loop. There is a camping spot to break up the walk if you plan on doing the longer one. See if you can spot peregrine falcons and saltwater crocs as you go

6. Kakadu Bakery

Okay, this isn’t exactly an activity that involves exploring the great outdoors, but you need fuel for your adventure. Head to Kakadu’s Bakery in Jabiru, where you can pick up delicious meat pies, hot sandwiches, and burgers to keep you going. Grab a pastry and a hot drink to, to keep your energy levels up before you head back into the jungle.
