Jabiru is a small town located in Kakadu National Park.

Not only is Jabiru located in Kakadu National Park, but it is known as the only town in Australia that is located in a national park. Because of this, Jabiru has become a popular destination for visitors to Kakadu National Park.

The town may be small, but there is lots to enjoy when visiting the area.

Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel

If you visit Jabiru, it’s hard to miss the Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel. This hotel is a recognisable landmark in Jabiru because of its unique shape. If the name didn’t give it away, the hotel is shaped like a crocodile!

This isn’t the only lodging option in Jabiru. Some other options include the Cooinda Lodge and Anbinik Kakadu Resort. Regardless of where you are staying, it’s worth viewing the Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel.

Camping

If you prefer to connect with nature and sleep under the stars, there are heaps of options for camping. The camping options range from a simple, budget-friendly campground to caravan parks or tiny lodges.

Marrawuddi Gallery

Marrawuddi Gallery is a fine art gallery that features pieces from Aboriginal artists. When visiting the gallery, you will find a range of beautiful artwork. There is even a boutique full of handmade souvenirs to bring home.

Swimming and recreational activities

You can take a dip in the Olympic-sized swimming pool located in Jabiru. If you’re a fan of tennis, you can rally on one of the local tennis courts. A nine-hole golf course is also available, accompanied by a scenic backdrop of the national park.

Hiking

One of the best hiking trails in Jabiru is the Bowali track. It begins near the Crocodile Hotel and ends near the Bowali Visitor Centre. The hiking path will lead you through the lush woodlands of the village in the national park.

Other hiking paths will lead you past stunning wetlands, scenic lookouts, plunge pools, and more. There are many hiking paths in the area, so we recommend visiting the Bowali Visitor Centre for more information.

Birdwatching

If you enjoy birding, Kakadu is the perfect place to spot colourful birds. Almost one-third of the bird species in Australia are found in Kakadu National Park.

Different walking trails and wetlands will expose you to a diverse range of fascinating birds. The Yellow Water Wetlands are a great place to spot Jabiru, Orange-Footed Scrubfowl, and many other bird species. Mamukala Wetlands has viewing shelters and a boardwalk perfect for birding.

Scenic flight

If you want to experience Jabiru from a unique perspective, you can embark on a scenic helicopter ride. The flight will take you high above Kakadu National Park. From the sky, you’ll be able to see the ancient rainforest and spot prominent landmarks.
