Jabiru Lake

Jabiru Lake is a natural area with extensive birdlife surrounding the water and in the trees.

In the heart of Kakadu, Jabiru is one of the main towns of the national park. Visitors of Kakadu will come to Jabiru, stay in the giant crocodile hotel, and drive out to nearby attractions.

Jabiru Lake is in the heart of the town with walking trails around the lake and a park close by. You can spend the afternoon by the lake relaxing or enjoying the sunshine all year round.

Before making your way to Kakadu, you will need to buy an NT Parks Pass online if you are a visitor to the Northern Territory.

Things to do

  • Marrawuddi Arts & Culture

The Marrawuddi Arts & Culture highlights established and emerging Aboriginal artists across Kakadu and West Arnhem Land. The art centre displays a range of art like painting, weaving, sculpture, screen-printing, and photography.

Stop by the Marrawuddi Cafe and grab yourself a small snack or a drink to enjoy while walking through the gallery.

  • Walk around the lake

Walking around Jabiru Lake makes a perfect walk during the day or at sunrise and sunset. As you are in croc territory, there are saltwater crocodiles in the lake so be cautious and avoid walking too close to the water.

  • Lake Jabiru Park

Spend an afternoon by the lake at the park and use the BBQs with the shaded picnic tables. Bring the kids along and they can use the playground with slides, climbing equipment, and swings.

  • Jabiru Swimming Pool

As you cannot swim in Jabiru Lake, another option is the Jabiru Swimming Pool. The swimming pool is a 50-metre Olympic-sized pool with a kid’s splash pad. The pool is open all year round, but it is closed on Good Friday, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
